The race really began the day before. After picking up my race package Duncan and I went for a drive around the race course; I had not seen the course yet. We drove around the bike course first, and everything was copacetic. Then we decided to check out the run course - not a good idea.
The race organizers managed to find the one location in the galaxy where you can leave from one point on the ground, run up continuously and arrive back in the same location. Race course brought to you by Escher. So, the exercise intended to relax me had the opposite effect. Hills on a run are not usually an issue for me, but I haven't run hills at all this summer. In fact, due to my injury, I only managed to run on the track 3 times previous to the Tri.
Duncan and I made our way home, and he went down for a nap. I got my ass to the pool for a light workout intended to relax me a bit for the following day. This was somewhat successful.
I went home and started getting all my stuff laid out for the next day. I realized that I had no idea if there were aid stations available at this event, and I proceeded to fill up water bottles with a Gatorade mix. 1 for the swim, 1 for the bike, 1 for the run and some electrolyte mix for recovery. Apparently I thought the race was an Iron Man event being held in the Gobi desert. I finally went to bed, because I was not thinking straight.
