Running Again

I hit the treadmill for the second time in a month on Saturday, and the experience went well. The first time I ventured on to the neo-platonic torture machine I experienced shooting pains through the general gluteal area, and I decided to cease and desist after about 30 strides.

This attempt was far more successful, and I continued on for 15 minutes with no pain.

I am generally not a huge fan of running on treadmills as it is one of the many things we do as humans (including riding roller coasters, climbing ladders and driving over 100km) that our vestibular system is just not designed to deal with. I don't believe in our genetic history we have had much time to develop those certain traits at all. In fact, in some ways, I am sure that a cheetah is more genetically suited to driving fast; strictly from a vestibular point of view.

That is my slightly verbose way of saying that I always feel a bit woozy after running on a treadmill. I am looking forward to getting on materials more of this dimension - such as pavement. That, I think, is for next week.

The band OK Go found a much better use for treadmills in their video for Here is Goes Again. It is worth a look, if you have not seen it.
